Is it just me, or when the page loads, the tags for the spoiler don't take effect until afterwards? (So I'll see what's in the spoiler for a split-second, then it hides properly)

It's not just you. It also happens to avatars, where it stretches the avatar for no obvious reason (or at least, I get that on my avatar all the time). >_>
And I still dislike not being able to post multiple spoilers at once.

I think it may have something to do with a cached version of the picture in the avatar (not sure about the spoiler problem, I don't have that). I usually see my avatar ridiculously huge for a couple seconds and then it shrinks back down to size. It happens occasionally with other people's avatars too.
